![]() ![]() I would agree that most of the 9mm sold in the US, in the last 10-15 years have a barrel length less than 4.25”. I don’t know the answer, just pointing out it‘s not obvious, to me, that most 9mm’s have a barrel under 4.25”. Most of those still exist, even if they are old. Are there more of them than the larger varieties, worldwide, in 9mm? Remember, most 9mm’s issued by large bodies of buyers (governments/armies, etc) used pistols with barrels over 4.25”, since the 1980’s. Then, you look at all the small (under 3”) CCW firearms in 9mm, which have really only been popular the last 10 years, or so. The G17 is over that, but the G19 is more popular and slightly shorter and the G19 (and now G45/19x) is a big seller. Almost every 9mm 1911 is 4.25” or longer. Is that fact? I know a lot do, but there are a lot of Beretta 92 variants, in the world. Take the info if you want to or not but it might be relevant for some.Ĭlick to expand. The first part of your post was great! The last sentence is purely opinion.Īs far as, “most handguns that shoot 9mm have 4.25” or shorter barrels.” When/ If they see this for sale on the shelf and believe it's what they want from the velocities printed on the front of box but they should look at the fine print first and that it tested using a 6" barrel. It's not new people and agencies do it all the time.Īnyways this thread was created for people who may need or like some hotter 9mm fmj. Is hotter ammo necessary no but some prefer it in certain scenarios, I don't use it regularly but occasionally.Īlso me and many others also like to train with ammo that can simulate our +p defensive round as much as possible so when I see for sale what I think is a hotter FMJ round I might buy it just for training. Hotter ammo smooths in a Glock trigger and parts quicker as well just like if you was shooting +p. Yes I know modern firearms don't need much if any break in period to function, but I've I seen plenty of brand new guns chock from weak ammo that's. Tested using a 4" barrelĬlick to expand. You believe you only gain 25fps per extra inch of barrel? Seems a little low These are just three examples of what seems to be an industry standard maybe its unofficial but it's what I've gotten use to seeing. I guess my point is if you look at Federal, Speer and Hornady as an example the advertised velocities are tested using a 4" barrel. This is what I thought I had here with the Norma. I like the higher velocity stuff when breaking in new firearm especially heavy sprung pistols, in those scenario's advertised velocity does matter even if I'm just punching paper. I'm not saying it's bad ammo just misleading, just a little because it does have an apostrophe* beside the specs but I assumed it would be a test with 4 or even 4.5" barrel at the most. If the labeling and specs on this ammo box don't strike you as odd it does to me. If you don't agree with me on that ok no problem but this ammo is not made like you can make it with the lower pressure high velocity because it says right on the box that it's 1214fps out of a 6" barrel so when I shoot it out of a 4" barrel it's nowhere near 1214fps. ![]() Ok as seen in my pics you see the front of the Norma box and the advertised velocity and energy, now in small letters on the side of the box it says tested using a 6" barrel so is that not odd and maybe misleading. I just think advertising a velocity using a 6inch barrel is kind of lame but the ammo cycles so I just wanted to pass this on.Ĭlick to expand.I guess my point is if you look at Federal, Speer and Hornady as an example the advertised velocities are tested using a 4" barrel. I would say the real FPS is just a little more than Federal Champion and a little less than 115gr blazer brass. I will say first I'm glad to find anything and the Norma cycled fine in my 19.3 and the shell and bullet had no nicks or dents it was in fine shape looked great. I looked closer at the Norma box and noticed the side of the box it says the advertised velocity was tested using a 6 inch barrel! Like what that seems like cheating I thought I was buying some faster stuff closer to NATO. I also shot some 115 blazer brass as well and even the blazer brass had a little more pressure. I took a box to the range today and was surprised the recoil felt very soft. Here is the thing the 1214fps advertised velocity is in nice big letters on the front of box see pics below. I was able to aquire 3 boxes of Norma 9mm 115gr today and in my area of middle Tennessee I don't see Norma brand ever, I believe it is the first time I've ever bought it or even seen it on the shelves locally. ![]()
